Malta based drama Two Weeks in August is coming to BBC One

Filmed across Malta and Gozo, Two Weeks in August brings Mediterranean warmth and simmering tension to BBC iPlayer and BBC One. First-look images from the witty, painfully relatable eight-part drama — produced by Various Artists Limited (I May Destroy You, Such Brave Girls) — tease a sun-drenched reunion that quickly spirals into chaos.

Written and created by Catherine Shepherd (Sally4Ever, The Shrink Next Door), the series follows a group of friends reconnecting for a summer holiday, only to uncover more about themselves and each other than they ever expected.

New pictures showcase Jessica Raine (The Devil’s Hour, Patrick Melrose) as Zoe alongside Damien Molony (Bergerac, Brassic) on a midday stroll, with Zoe later seen contemplating life from a rocky vista. Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Still Up) appears as Jess, unwinding poolside, while Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, The Book of Clarence) as Solomon takes a refreshing dip.

Leila Farzad (Kaos, I Hate Suzie) and Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, Fleabag) feature as Nat and Jacob, soaking in the villa’s sweeping views. Other images hint at a party the group will never forget — for better or worse.

The ensemble cast also includes Dolly Wells (Dracula), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), Dylan Brady (Mary & George), Maria Almeida (The Buccaneers), Khalil Gharbia (The Lost Boys), Florence Banks (The New Look), Sonny Poon Tip (Industry) and Cassius Hackforth (Doctor Who).

Set in Greece, the drama centres on Zoe, a woman seeking to rediscover joy while holidaying with family and friends. But in paradise, an illicit kiss ignites a chain of events that transforms the dream escape into a nightmare. As Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires, the trip becomes a reckoning for a group of adults reluctant to grow up.

When the friends realise they are trapped on the island and confronted with life-or-death stakes, loyalties fracture. Accusations fly: is Zoe the catalyst for the turmoil, or are greater forces at work? This is Greece, after all — land of the ancient gods.

Episodes 1–4 are directed by Tom George (This Country, Sherwood), with Matthew Moore (The Great, Colin from Accounts) helming episodes 5–8. The series was shot last year in Malta and Gozo with the support of local production company Pellikola.
