Dublin based drama KIN to return for season 3

Kin returning for season 3

After months of speculation and fan anxiety, gritty Irish crime drama Kin is finally making its long-awaited comeback. The acclaimed series, created by Peter McKenna, is officially returning for a third season, reigniting the story of Dublin’s most dangerous crime family.

The show, which first captivated audiences with its dark portrayal of gangland loyalty, betrayal, and revenge, was filmed entirely in and around Dublin, with a strong emphasis on the city’s southside. Its raw authenticity became a defining feature, with recognisable locations woven into the narrative.

Among the standout filming spots were the stylish The Mayson Hotel, the atmospheric Lansdowne Lane, and the iconic Aviva Stadium, all of which helped ground the drama in a distinctly Irish setting.

Season two concluded in May 2023 with a gripping finale that drew nearly half a million viewers, cementing the show’s status as a ratings success. Yet despite its popularity, the future of the series was thrown into doubt when production company Bron Studios filed for bankruptcy later that year.

Fans feared the worst — that the Kinsella saga had reached an abrupt and premature end.

However, hope has been restored. According to The Irish Sun, Irish broadcaster RTÉ and the BBC have joined forces to revive the series, ensuring the story continues.

Adding to the excitement, Charlie Cox — best known internationally for Daredevil — is set to reprise his role. Reports suggest Cox will fly into Dublin this summer as filming for the new season begins.

Even more tantalising for viewers, insiders claim the revival may extend beyond just one season. A fourth and fifth instalment are reportedly already planned, hinting that the shocking season two ending could be explored in far greater depth.

In the UK, Kin previously aired on the BBC and later found a wider global audience via Netflix, where it gained a fresh wave of followers.

With production back on track and major broadcasters backing the project, Kin’s return promises more tension, violence, and high-stakes drama from Dublin’s underworld.

For fans of the Kinsellas, the wait is almost over.
